JUDGING GUIDELINES & AWARDS

Judging Guidelines

• Studios will be provided with VIDEO JUDGE DVD’s with the judges comments of their competitors routines. Score breakdown will be indicated on score cards. VIDEO JUDGE guarantees delivery of your DVD critiques no later than 4 days after the competition. Score cards will be available for pick-up at the competition. Each solo routine will receive a complimentary DVD critique compliments of SuperStar, $25.00 value. Pick up times will be announced at the competition.

• Competitors may enter as many divisions as they wish but must never compete against themselves. Solo and duet/trio Competitors cannot place more than once for overall high score. In the case of duets/trios and groups, the same group of dancers may not compete against themselves in the same subject unless 50% of the participants change or unless they move up to the next age level.

• If there is only one entry in a division, that entry will be eligible to receive a medal award. A gold medal standing or higher must be obtained for the High Score Trophies to be awarded.

• A 2.5 point deduction will be made for unfinished routines.

• If 20 or more Novice routines are entered into a specific division, they will be adjudicated as a separate division.

• Each entry will be judged on a point system. There will be a panel of four scoring judges. Each one can award a total of 25 points using the following criteria: 5 points Technique; difficulty, execution, 5 points Choreography; uniqueness, synchronization, 5 points Stage presence & Showmanship; projection, congeniality, 5 points Innovation & Creativity; musicality, costuming/props, 5 points Overall Impression; audience appeal, general performance.

• Platinum, Gold, High Silver, Silver and Bronze awards will be presented based on the following cumulative scores;

• It is possible to have multiple Platinum, Gold, High Silver, Silver and Bronze medal awards within each age division for each performance category.

• If a routine should drop below the minimum number of performers required for the group size during the competition, their routine will be scored and awarded according to their point value, but will not be eligible for any High Score awards.

SuperStar Awards

• Participants in all SuperStar duet, trio and group routines will receive either a Platinum, Gold, High Silver, Silver or Bronze pin and a beautiful ribbon. All solo participants will each receive a Medallion.

• In the case of 20 or less competitive routines in any age division, ages will be combined. (eg: 5-6, 7-8, 9-10).

  First, second and third place high scoring routines overall in the Competitive Level will receive a Trophy in each age division (8 yrs & under - Junior.,9-12 yrs - Pre-Teen, 13-14 yrs - Intermediate,15 yrs & over - Senior.) except where noted. Each participant will receive a special SuperStar placement ribbon.

•The first place high scoring soloist in the Competitive level will receive a SuperStar Jacket and will be awarded the Title.

• First, second and third place high scoring routines overall in the Recreational Level will receive a Trophy in each age division (12 yrs & under – Junior and 13 yrs & over - Senior.) except where noted. Each participant will receive a special SuperStar placement ribbon.

• First, second and third place high scoring routines overall in the Novice Level will receive a Trophy. Each participant will receive a special SuperStar placement ribbon.

• If there are less than 5 routines in each age division at the Competitive Level the division may be combined (e.g. Junior and Pre Teen combine to become Junior, Intermediate and Senior combine to become Senior).

  The following high score scholarship awards will be presented in the Junior, Pre-Teen, Intermediate & Senior age categories of the Competitive Level. Solo - $100.00, Top Duet/Trio  - $100.00, Top Small Group - $100.00, Top Large Group - $125.00, Top Line  - $150.00. A cash award of $200.00 will be awarded to the overall highest score of the competition if more than 300 entries are received.

• Participation Award - a cash award of $1,000 will be awarded to the studio with the most entries in the competition if more than 450 routines are received for the entire competition.
• All routines in the following special categories will compete against each other regardless of Competition Level; Pro-Am, Adults Only, Student Choreography and Baby Steps. There are no Competition Level options for these categories.

• In all Competitive Level categories, there must be a minimum of 5 entries in the Junior, Pre-Teen, Intermediate and Senior Divisions in order for the scholarships to be awarded.

• All competitive Level solos, duet/trios, small groups, large groups and lines are eligible for the High Score Awards with exceptions as noted.

• Photogenic contestants will each receive a medallion. A Trophy will be awarded to the highest scoring entry. This category is not eligible for the Platinum, Nova or High Score Awards.

• In the following special categories, each routine will receive a SuperStar medal standing ribbon and pin. Pro-Am, Adults Only, Student Choreography, and Vocal. These categories are not eligible for High Score Awards.

• All Baby Steps competitors will each receive a medallion.

• Most Outstanding Costume winner will receive a Trophy. The award for this free category will be based on overall impression, fit and how the costume relates to the performance. All performance costumes are eligible.

• The SuperStar “Nova Entertainment Award” will be presented to the routine deemed to be the most entertaining by the judges. Winner will receive a Trophy.

• Awards will be presented for the “Top Studio Spirit” (Most enthusiastic and supportive studio).

• The SuperStar Dancer of the Year award will be presented to the Solo dancer who shows the most potential. Judges look for well rounded dancers in all forms of dance with a strong emphasis on ballet technique.

• SuperStar will award an undetermined number of Special Awards & Teacher’s Choreography Awards at the Judges’ and Directors’ discretion.

• SuperStar will not incur the cost to mail any awards not picked up during the competition. Please ensure someone is there to pick up your awards, dance music and judges critiques.
