PERFORMANCE LEVELS, CATEGORIES & DIVISIONS

Competition Levels

NOVICE - This is a beginner level extended to all ages. Competitors must be in the first year of competitive dance with the following exception. Soloists and duet/trios who have never competed as a soloist or duet/trio before may compete in this category. 75% of group competitors must be novice. Novice solos are not eligible for title.

RECREATIONAL –This level is extended to all ages and is designed for students who take 4 hours or less of dance classes per week. It is NOT mandatory that you enter the Recreational Level if the participants take 4 hours of dance classes or less. The Recreational Level is not eligible for Title. If a student is entered in the Recreational Level for any routine, all routines they compete in must be in the Recreational Level. You cannot compete in the recreational level in one routine and then compete in the Competitive level in another routine. The only exception to this rule is for Line/Production routines in the Competitive Level.

COMPETITIVE – This level is extended to all ages. All dancers who take more than 4 hours of dance classes per week must compete in this Level.

Performance Divisions

• Types of entries are Solo, Duet/Trio (Duets and Trios compete against each other), Small Group (4-9 performers), Large Group (10-18 performers), Line (19 or more performers). Soloists may only perform one routine in each performance category.  All solo performances in the competitive division are eligible for the SuperStar Title.

• Ensure that the category and age division that you have entered are correct. We will not make changes at the event.

• Teachers/professionals may not compete in the regular Solo or Duet/Trio Divisions. They must compete in the Pro/Am Category. They may however compete in Large Groups and Lines.

• SuperStar reserves the right to limit solo entries due to time constraints. Once the solo limit

has been reached, no more solo entries will be accepted. Entries are on a first come basis.

Recreational Level routines will be placed in Junior (12 yrs & under) or Senior (13 yrs & over) classifications for overall awards.

• For Duets/Trios, Groups and Lines, the average age of the total members in the routine will be the age division in which they will compete. To determine this, add the ages of the competitors then divide by the number of competitors. When an average age ends in .5 or above, round up to the next age. Should a question arise, competitors will be required to provide proof of age.

• Names, birthdates and ages of all competitors must appear on the official SuperStar entry form.

• ALL AGES ARE AS OF THE FIRST DAY OF THE COMPETITION.  If a protest should arise regarding age, all competitors must be prepared to show proof of age.
